In less than a decade, industrial-scale wind generation systems have been springing up worldwide as energy planners strive to develop new alternatives to fossil-fueled power. UTC Overseas, Inc.’s Project Cargo Division has already coordinated the transport of wind generator nacelles, hubs and blades from the U.S. to Latin America, providing the personal hands-on care and service that is our company’s hallmark.

Blades, often well over a hundred feet in length, are huge airfoils. Protecting them from even minor nicks or chips that could impact the critical shape is crucial. That often means shipping them in special frames or cages, and ensuring extra care in cargo lashing and protection during transport on water or land.

Because blades are aerodynamic, even light winds during loading and offloading demand that they be carefully controlled with taglines to keep them safe.

UTC also understands the complexities of proper cargo descriptions and designations and how they can impact tariffs and duties on wind system components. These small details can potentially have a big impact on the bottom line if not handled with care.
